Second MD Meeting

This past Thursday I had another meeting with an MD group.  This one was a little different from the one on Tuesday.  This group was smaller, it was 2 MDs and 6 staff.  They were a satellite office of a large corporate medical group.  It should be noted that I scheduled this meeting in March 2011 and it actually had to be scheduled for July!  The idea is to not worry too much about the time frame, but to fill your calendar throughout the year, what you are doing today will payoff tomorrow.

The only way for the medical community to get to know you and what your office does is to get out there and meet them.  Time is a commodity among all professionals so if you can work YOUR schedule to accommodate a lunch in their office that can be a game changer.  You have to have a reason to go to their office and some of those reasons would be co-management of patients (they may or may not have referred them to you personally), showcasing chiropractic research or simply an introduction because you are in the same community.

The best advise that I can give you is that you have to get out there and practice talking to them.  The more you do it the better it gets. By the way, this was the FIRST MD office that I sent my CV along with my first report on one of their patients, the results were incredible.

Yesterdays Meeting

Yesterday I was invited into a large family medicine office in my area.  They have 4 MDs, 6 PA and about 25 employees.  This was the first time that I met with these MDs and PAs, however I have seen many of their patients for chiropractic care.  They were not referred by this group, but these MDs were their primary care providers.  I have written an extensive consultation in the members section from beginning to end and what types of questions and what responses I gave.  This is critical information because it doesn't really change from MD to MD, but you need to be on top of it!

I shared some good chiropractic research including the recent study comparing spinal manipulation vs microdiscectomy.  They were really impressed and now I will be visiting them twice per month to drop off the bimonthly research reviews.

I have another meeting tomorrow with a group of 25 and will follow the same template which I have used over the last 14 years, it works.   The interesting thing about all these meetings is NEVER once have I been asked what technique I use!  For more information on how to discuss care with MDs, please call me at 716-228-3847.

Working with the Medical Community

Working with the medical community is about your ability to properly triage a pateint.  Promoting your expertise in your community requires having your credentials documented on your CV.  The point is that when a MD refers patients to you they are assuming liability for your actions.  Did you know that it wasnt until 1986 that the AMA officially reveresed thier opinion that it was unethical to refer to chiropractiors?

Whether you believe the above statement or not, it is truth and is it is why you either get MD referrals or you dont.  Showcasing your expertise in a CV in proper format is critical.  For more information on how and why MDs will refer to you, please go to http://www.teachchiros.com/MD-Doctors-Marketing.  One of the first steps when you become a member is to work on putting 2 important items in order, first your CV the second your reporting.

MD Relationship Program

The new MD Relationship Program is being provided to give the chiropractic profession a look at how building relationships with the medial community based on clinical excellence can help secure your practice growth and promote chiropractic care to the community.   This information is more general (concept based) than our Member content.  This Blog will provide you with an ide how my personal experience building 2 hospital based chiropractic clinics has influenced my practice for the last 14 years.  I presently practice full time and use these concepts to continue to build my practice.

Information on this program is also available at the following links:
